Amounts range from $2,500 to $5,000 and are open to students in the Midwest and Northeast United States.</p>
<p>&#8220;It is imperative students interested in  challenging and improving themselves through higher education get the  support they deserve,&#8221; said Mike Maiorana,  president of Verizon Wireless&#8217; Washington, DC/Maryland/Virginia Region. &#8220;We&#8217;re very proud to partner with the UNCF to create these  scholarships and help highly-motivated students prepare for the road  ahead.&#8221;</p>
<p>The <strong>Verizon Wireless/UNCF Black History  Month Essay Contest</strong> requires a 500 word essay that discusses &#8220;how the evolution of wireless  technology has changed the world in which we live.&#8221; Students may visit<strong> <a href="http://www.uncf.org/" target="_blank">http://www.UNCF.org</a></strong> for all rules and the online application. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a class="highslide" href="http://thehustletownchronicle.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/payless.jpg"><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-793" src="http://thehustletownchronicle.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/payless-218x300.jpg" alt="" width="218" height="300" /></a>For the second year running <a href="http://www.payless.com/store/home/bhm.jsp"><strong>Payless ShoeSource</strong></a> will offer the<strong> <em>Payless Inspiring Possibilities Scholarship</em> program</strong><em> </em>in partnership with the <strong>National Urban League (NUL).</strong> The program is focused on raising money to support the future of minority youth.</p>
<p>Payless will continue to sell a limited-edition <em>I Believe</em> necklace for only $4 in more than 800 stores nationwide and online. All net profits of necklace sales will be donated along with a minimum of $35,000 to the scholarship program.  The <strong>NUL</strong> is then expected to distribute <strong>scholarships ranging between $350-$5,000</strong> to minority youth through its signature education program, <strong>Project Ready,</strong> for the 2010-2011 academic season.</p>
<p>The limited-edition necklaces, available now in stores and on Payless.com, feature a unique silver-toned loop-link &#8220;Rolo&#8221; chain and three dangling charms inscribed with the inspiring messages &#8220;Dream&#8221; and &#8220;Believe.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;Youth and education are critical to the future of our nation,&#8221; said LuAnn Via, president and CEO of Payless.  &#8221;We were thrilled with the success of the program last year, and pleased to have given out more than a dozen scholarships to deserving youth through our partner NUL.</p>
<p>Students <strong>must be registered with Project Ready</strong> in order to be eligible for a 2010-2011 Inspiring Possibilities Scholarship. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Opportunities continue to increase for <strong>Black students </strong>pursuing <strong>math and science related careers.</strong> In Phoenix, Arizona<strong> the Goodrich Foundation</strong> has awarded the <strong>Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation</strong> a <strong>$25,000 grant.</strong> The award will fund a new course at <strong>South Mountain Community College (SMCC)</strong> designed to encourage women and minority students to study science, math, technology and engineering. <strong>SMCC</strong> is a federally-designated Minority Serving Institution where over half of the student population comes from traditionally underserved ethnic groups.</p>

Under the direction of Donald A. Coleman, the scholarship is offered through GlobalHue, the nation&#8217;s largest minority-owned, full-service marketing communications agency.</p>
<p>Ten deserving students will be award scholarships of <strong>$5,000 each for the 2010-2011 academic year.</strong> Applicants must be <strong>current full-time college juniors or seniors</strong>, and <strong>majoring</strong> or concentrating in <strong>entrepreneurship</strong>.</p>
<p>The CES program strives to promote entrepreneurship as a career choice amongst ethnic college students.</p>
<p>&#8220;After a successful kick-off year in 2009, we thought that it was time to expand the CES reach and amplify our entrepreneurial message,&#8221; says Kelli Coleman, Vice President of Business Development at GlobalHue. &#8220;This year, we are offering scholarships to African-American and Hispanic students at all four-year accredited colleges and universities.&#8221;</p>
