Dante Lee has posted an update on a special awards luncheon hosted by Black Enterprise to provide recognition to African American Entrepreneurs. Award entries are due by March 16, 2010 for an awards luncheon in Atlanta on May 17, 2010.

There are several award categories and nominees will receive highly visible exposure on the internet site and in the print magazine. The revenue requirements may seem high for some small business entrepreneurs but it’s well worth checking out and not beyond the reach of those who are really serious about getting their hustle on.

The five African American winners for this year’s event are B. Smith, Founder & Chief Creative Officer, B. Smith Enterprises; Hon. Shirley Jackson, Ph.D., President, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; Audrey Smaltz, CEO and Founder, The Ground Crew Worldwide; Aulana L. Peters, Retired Partner, Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP; and former Secretary of Labor Alexis M. Herman, who now serves as Chair and CEO of New Ventures LLC.

For every video sensation that burns its way through YouTube, there are unsung millions consigned to that great archive in the sky. Any entrepreneur with a hot concept and a borrowed camcorder can drive countless potential customers to their site–but it will take some solid planning to go viral. Black Enterprise explains how to get the next office email forward to be about your content:

1. Create a Focused Message First. Make sure your clip focuses on your firm’s strategies, and quickly gets to the point.
2. Take the Professional Approach. Avoid inappropriate content, such as bad grammar or poor quality, because “a lack of professionalism translates to a lack of credibility.”
3. Write a Script. This will help center your message, and you’ll thank yourself for the early effort when the cameras are on.
4. Pay Attention to Length. Keep in mind a pace of one hundred words per minute, for someone speaking formal English. This will guide scriptwriting as you’ll want a clip about three to five minutes in length.
