BlackDoctor.org recently announced the launch of the BDO Symptom Checker, a new online tool designed to identify and address potential illness, and giving users information for effective treatment and prevention.

Features of the Symptom Checker include:

  • The ability to address symptoms of a male, female or child.
  • Guidance on self-care strategies, as well as information about when to seek care.
  • An encyclopedia of health of information covering 300 symptoms and thousands of additional health topics.
  • Tools to help prepare for a doctor visit, including sample questions and commonly asked questions.

The tool is very similar to resources on WebMD.com, but the site itself caters to specific African-American health concerns and maintains one of the largest national online databases of African American physicians and dentists.
