Forum One Communications, announced a new U.S. Army website launched to honor the hard work and sacrifices of African-Americans in service to the United States. Developed in cooperation with Summit Marketing, www.ForLoveofLiberty.net highlights African-American contributions from the Revolutionary War through today.
Veterans and their families are encouraged to share personal stories on the site to be featured among existing content, which portrays life experiences of African-American soldiers through contemporary and archived stories, photos and video.
The launch corresponds with the upcoming release of a PBS documentary sponsored by the U.S. Army: “For Love of Liberty: The Story of America’s Black Patriots,” which premieres in February. The documentary is hosted by Halle Berry and includes an introduction by Colin Powell. It features dramatic readings by Bill Cosby, Ossie Davis, and Robert Duvall.
“Our staff gained a new appreciation for the sacrifices of African-American soldiers,” said Michael Walsh, project director at Forum One Communications. “It is all too clear that their great contribution to American history too often goes untold.”
The site also provides downloadable classroom discussion guides developed by two accomplished curricula creators, Marcy Johnson, Ph.D and Jewell Winn, Ed.D. The materials will help educators bring the PBS documentary into their classrooms.
