I travel to the United Kingdom every other month for business. Though I have not lived abroad extensively, I understand some of the challenges of being Black and away from “home” (for those of us who live in the States) and can only imagine that things are even more challenging when home becomes someplace very different and far away from loved one. It’s not impossible and for those who are prepared and who manage to learn from and grow through the event, I understand that it’s a rich and rewarding or even life-changing experience.
BlackExpat.com is a website and magazine dedicated to this experience. Its three contributors have grown the site into a community of black folks who live either live abroad, travel extensively or just have questions or interests in what it means to live your life abroad. It’s a great site worth visiting and the free online magazine is a fine example of engaging content.

I’d like information on how to live abroad. Find a job in the city and stay for 3-6 months to find out if living abroad would be for me. I’m 59 and African American. Are volunteer projects that would take me there as well as lodge and feed me. Are there places I can forward a resume and a letter of intent so that I could be employed before I go. I could explore in the evenings. Just curious
